Still Life with Summer Dress

She came on guided by
the midnight sky collapsing
overhead, sextant star charts
and her thick wet lips

half awake in bullfrog pajamas
skinny legs and all
a youthful stirring in the strong
scent of animal musk

cool black wind delivered
on sea song, reaching under
sheets shivering together
avenues underfoot of her flesh

crawling things scurrying ideas
not yet calling to evolve
stiff in armor plating go parading
where kingly ferns uncoil,
multiply and seek dominion

black cat creeping through
the grass, her fur collecting dew
yellow eyes from the shadows
where fell a summer dress.
